Patrick O鈥橠onoghue Named Huntington Society of Canada Research Chair

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Patrick O’Donoghue, PhD, as the inaugural Huntington Society of Canada Research Chair at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, effective November 1, 2024.

This prestigious chair, established in collaboration with the Huntington Society of Canada, is the first of its kind in North America. It aims to accelerate the development of innovative approaches for preventing, diagnosing, and treating Huntington’s disease, a progressive neurodegenerative condition.

Dr. O’Donoghue, a tenured Associate Professor at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, has built an impressive career in chemical biology and genetics. He earned his degree in Biophysics and PhD in Chemistry from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, followed by postdoctoral fellowships at the Institute for Genomic Biology and Yale University. Since joining 深夜福利站 in 2013, he has served as a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Chemical Biology (2014–2024) and has received several accolades, including the 2021 Nucleic Acids Research Breakthrough Article award.

His research focuses on genetic code engineering and tRNA therapeutics, with applications in synthetic biology and medicine. His work explores novel protein modification methods, human tRNA variants in disease, and nucleic acid-based therapies to correct genetic defects. As the Huntington Society of Canada Research Chair, Dr. O’Donoghue will expand his focus to develop groundbreaking treatments for Huntington’s disease.
